Keyser, sculptor, is responsible for the creativity in these original works. John earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the prestigious Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. He pursued a Masters of fine art degree from the University of New Mexico.While in graduate school, John was awarded the first one per cent for art commission in Albuquerque, a thirteen-foot sculpture on the University of New Mexico campus. He continued to create public monuments and was awarded several private commissions. In 1986, John created two six foot bronze whooping cranes for the entrance to the Rio Grande Zoological Park. The popularity of Keyser's public works sparked interest by private collectors.Living in New Mexico, John acquired the spirit of the southwest. John adopted a “hands on†lifestyle. He built his own solar house, maintaining respect for the land and resources. John rekindled his boyhood passion for horses. He trained, roped and ranched. As his family grew, he became more involved in the schools and community service. He gave art classes, helped build the local library, and coached soccer for his daughters and later, at the local High School.Keyser's cowboy sensibility sought purpose in his designs and his creative energy determined that the objects in his world be aesthetic. John challenged himself to create functional furniture and accessories. His success is demonstrated by the positive response of retailers and patrons across the country.From his home in Corrales, John can look east to the Sandia Mountains and then west to the volcanoes and mesas. Inspired by the southwest landscape, his interest turned to the rich history of the area and a fascination with the petroglyph images and their universal context. The wall sculptures and furniture lines these sights enthused continue to appeal in the market place. Rich textures and the integrity of these subjects are crafted into antelope and horse herd sculptures, mirrors, tables and chairs.Today, John R. Keyser Inc. is celebrated for his copyright Dancer series. John's gift for design captures the whimsy, grace and contour of the female figure. This image has been incorporated into a line of candleholders, furniture and sculptures. The elegance and style that has evolved in John's work reflects his diverse interests. John has traded in his rope and Wranglers for English tack and breeches. His current passion is training his horse, Treasure in dressage. John R. Keyser, Inc. consumes almost a third of the Corrales home site. The artwork is cut from sheets of steel by a state of the art opti-graph computer that follows Keyser's hand drawn designs. Each piece is filed, finished and lacquered to John's high standards of quality. The patron saint of chaos manages the office, sales and packaging.
