'Sheltering Aspen' Park City-City Hall, Marsac Plaza, Park City, UT

Nominee
'Sheltering Aspen' was Park City's first Public Art project, set in Marsac Plaza at their City Hall facility. We took existing poured concrete planter boxes, removed the foliage and trees, re engineered and 'planted' 80 'Trees' emulation the natural Aspen Stands of the Rocky Mountain Environment. The Yellow and Blue tones of the translucent ellipses shadow the colors on the ground during the day, with the tree posts clustered in 7 'stands' of groupings. This installation is engineered to withstand up to 110 mph climate and weather summer sun through the winter snow season. The walkways entering the facility are surrounded by the 'art trees' and help define this ecologically-minded community of their precious environment.

Sustainability

70% recycled aluminum, 40% recycled PETG translucent resin colored ellipses. Natural planting of local flora and stones for the final surface finish.

Awards

2013 CODArtworx International Award for Public Art in a Landscape Environment. Sponsored by Interior Design Magazine

Pricing

$65,000.00 for Design Drawings, engineering, materials, Fabrication and installation.

Notes

This Public Arts project is a good example of identifying a community aesthetic and culture, utilizing existing structures and incorporating natural ambient seasonal lighting for extra colored shadowing and pedestrian interaction
