Taking the shape of the “Niche” fountain from the Herbeau brand as its starting point, the Couture washbasin offers a horizontal reinterpretation of it, which takes shape thanks to these lines of force. It is based on the observation of a manufacturing process: the technique of molding vitrified porcelain by gravity. As a result of this process, parts molded in several parts show excess material. A set of walls is also added during product design, essential during demolding, to stiffen and structure the entire finished object. Thus the Couture washbasin extracts these technical characteristics from this know-how to fit into a new formal language, where the line structures the object, in order to become a connecting element and form a unity.
The Design Process
Following two experiences during his studies at the School Boulle, one dedicated to Japanese craftsmanship, the other to Danish design, Flavien Delbergue wondered about the notion of sincerity in a design production.Graduated in 2015, this questioning then becomes fundamental in his practice as a designer, seeking to create ever more everyday objects true, truer.In 2016, he founded his design studio in Paris. Think as an open playground, the exchange of know-how and collaboration with craftsmen, publishers and institutions are placed at the center of creation. His approach, influenced by Japanese culture, is based on the stripping of the material in order to achieve objects, with pure and soothing lines, whose function is obvious. An essential search for the void that tendstowards economy of means and guides us towards modestly balanced objects.In September 2018, he joined the residence of the Ateliers from Paris. He also works as a designer freelance for multiple brands.
Sustainability
Available in two sizes, the Couture Hand basin and washbasin can best be adapted to the needs of our customers. The vertical wall is hollow in its rear part to be able to accommodate its fittings. The faucet therefore does not need to be counceled but simply clamped to the ceramic wall. The backsplash also serves as a splash guard. A compact and practical product. Couture can be fixed to the wall at the desired height depending on the size of its users.
