Group Goetz Architects is currently designing the new 30,000 SF headquarters for the HSC (Hospital for Sick Children) Foundation. The new 7-story office building is located in the heart of the George Washington University campus and within a block of Pennsylvania Avenue on H Street. The project is being designed to incorporate the existing historic row house and carriage into its concept. The DC Historic Preservation Board, DC Zoning Board, and the Board of Zoning Adjustment are reviewing the small and complex project.GGA developed its concept to embrace the existing 100-year-old row house and carriage house and prominently display the existing structures within the main public lobby areas of the new building. The first two floors of the new office building embrace the exterior walls of the existing structures in double-height spaces and provide conference space for the Foundation. The five floors above the lobby levels are designed to provide efficient and flexible office layouts, while integrating the remaining floors of the existing buildings. These two concepts not only assisted GGA in designing a green building, but also helped GGA to ensure the preservation and integration of the two historic buildings located on site.Consistent with the healthful mission of the foundation the new building will be designed as one of the first Platinum LEED office building projects for a non-profit organization.
