In partnership with local physicians, VillageMD delivers high-quality clinical care and better patient outcomes in both a fee-for-service and value-based care at Village Medical primary care locations. 

Not only is the corporation’s approach to patient care innovative, but its strategy for facility design is, as well. The VillageMD design team keeps the focus on the physician-patient relationship through interior design features that embrace elements of hospitality design for healthcare settings. The progressive facilities are constructed with unique attention to visual aesthetics and awareness of the potential effects the interiors have on how patients feel. 

Expanding services in the Houston, Texas area, the VillageMD design team began working on prototype facilities that would inform future facility design for the locations beyond Houston Metro. The team opted to specify tile collections from Crossville for floors and walls. Not only do the Crossville products meet aesthetic and performance demands, but they also were sure to be delivered quickly and meet construction deadlines.

For the flooring in the main lobby and the second-floor lobby, the team chose Crossville’s Nest Collection. Nest offers a clean, sophisticated wood look in a porcelain tile. The product specifiers turned to this line for its beautiful appearance that replicates the style of wood flooring in texture and color but is crafted in a durable tile body that meets all the performance requirements of the healthcare industry. In the beautiful Olive hue, the flooring contributes to a calming, relaxing atmosphere as patients enter the facility.

To clad the busy elevator bank and staircase areas, the designers needed a durable wall covering that would coordinate well with the flooring and not be too heavy or thick to minimize weight for installation. They selected Crossville’s gauged porcelain tile panels in the Filo Collection. This versatile material proved to be just the alternative for these high traffic areas. With outer dimensions measured in feet—not inches, a lean profile of just 3+mm, and a lighter weight than many other wall cladding materials, the Crossville tile panels offered a modern, sleek surfacing solution. 

Not only do the porcelain panels provide the right look and feel, but they will perform beautifully in the long term. The expansive surface is high performance and simple to clean and maintain with minimal grout joints. These characteristics make the Crossville tile panels an excellent choice, as cleanliness, ease of maintenance, and aesthetic appeal are top priorities.

In addition to the patient areas, the design team chose Crossville’s Java Joint Collection for the tenant lobby. Inspired by the bold blends and smooth creams of coffees, Java Joint provides a stylish design  that will stand the test of time and traffic thanks to its superior porcelain tile body.

As VillageMD continues developing the Village Medical clinical model to deliver financial savings while ensuring the physician-patient relationship remains the priority, the prototype facilities beautifully represent the ongoing commitment to a more welcoming, hospitable style for the healthcare industry at large.
