Sustainable Woods and Great Design
Kevin Yardley
We have been reforesting old, degraded cattle farms for more than twenty years. Over this time we have increased our product range from standard outdoor English garden furniture to include planters, trellises, Spirit Song and custom furniture. Many of the clients that we private label for are looking for more than sustainable wood. Even though we have FSC/Smartwood/Rainforest Alliance certified tree plantations as well as chain-of-custody (CoC), the best companies, designers, and architects regularly request custom wood. Around 25% of what we produce is custom. We are really good at producing custom wood products fast with high quality. These products may be based on a standard product line but require unique details or dimensions. Or a client may approach us with an idea on paper or some pictures of a space that allow us to solve their problems. We send out many drawings as well as details on how to best fit wood into indoor or outdoor applications. We also sell large quantities of slabs of wood for dining tables, consoles, credenzas, coffee tables, etc. One of our departments salvages wood from the jungle floor or after floods that are commonplace in the tropics. These pieces of wood make amazing bases that can be used with slabs (bookmatched or consecutive pieces of wood are very popular) or with glass, metal, or stone tops. We work with teak, mahogany, spanish cedar, cocobolo rosewood, monkeypod, mango, tigerwood, granadillo, yellowheart, goncalo alves (my favorite wood), ficus, santa maria, and other fine tropical exotic woods. Consumers in the U.S. want immediate gratification as well as finely made furniture and other wood items. Diamond Teak (www.diamondteak.com) and Diamond Tropical Hardwoods (www.diamondtropicalhardwoods.com) have increased our product offerings while our reforested trees in Democratic Costa Rica have increased in size over the decades Please come down for a visit. We give great tours of the rainforest.
