In a highly competitive residential marketplace Group Goetz Architects was tasked with creating a fresh, contemporary design for the public areas of a new residential development in Arlington, Virginia. The modern design approach was a huge departure from the typical conservative residential Washington marketplace. The base building (designed by another architect) was built in the more traditional market approach. The owners however wanted to appeal to the more sophisticated younger professionals in the area and desired a more modern approach to the public spaces. As a result, the architects chose a minimalist modern design for the public spaces, allowing each of the public areas to flow from one to the other. The spaces included the entrance lobby, den area, contemplative seating area, recreational space, business office, and several service spaces. The design focused on the form of the space, lighting, and selective finishes.
