International Justice Mission

GGA designed the new headquarters of the International Justice Mission to expand and relocate the association's offices to Arlington, Virginia. IJM is a human rights agency that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. The importance of the mission drew the team to focus on a design that provide an important first impression while insuring that the facility design was carefully crafted to make the most impact with the least cost. The design concentrated on producing a professional and pleasant workspace that would allow a collaborative and communicative work environment. The office layout features a mix of private offices and workstations, which are organized around simple circulation pathways, which are open to natural light. The design team utilized much of the existing infrastructure to keep costs in line and promote a sustainable concept. The main lobby and conference center was the main focus of the design. Utilizing a gallery approach the striking photographs which directly relate to IJM's mission and their dramatic lighting creates a professional and contemplative first impression. The linear nature of the space links two ends of the office and two major conference rooms. The lobby gallery offers a subtle contrast to the collaborative and busy office space.
